Bitter and Sweet

when you grow

you reflect…

on all those wasted

bygone years

never to return

no second chance

yet, lessons are learned

so sorry for the things you did

so sorry for those things you’d said

you can’t erase any of it

it stains your very soul

to its murky depths

as years pass

you grow into another person

like a time carved statue

foreign to everything you were

once upon a time

what would we be like without the bitter and sweet?

all those lost loves

all those who walked by you

that you never reached out to stop

all those who you were waiting to come to you

that never happened

that will never happen

all that led you to here

to where you are

and, prepared your way

so bittersweet

lost love

the love that never was

the old man sits

not sorry for what he didn’t say

not sorry for what he didn’t do

looking out his window alone

with darkened

 dry eyes

regretting nothing

like the fool

like the wise man
