That Lost Love

That lost haunting love,

still smolders and burns

throughout bittersweet years

the righteous clamp

biting

sharply

around the bleeding heart.

Was it all so glorious as to not cast that

horrible clinging thing

out

deep into the darkness

of a bottomless sea?

That magical elixir

‘forget me not’

drips like rain

tapping

 the umbrella

reminding something

not quite right

was not yet heard.

Dare we not

grow wiser than our

shallow young years

as we sit upon

our cold rock

pondering?

Remnants

linger

long

near shadows

our weary feet cast.

no more tears

when fears

disappear into

forgotten

memories.

inner urgings

of our soul

hold heartfelt

remembering’s of

best and worst days

as our heads

so slowly

turn

 as flowers

do

away from

crumbling

towers filled

with

still voices

 bravely facing an

emerged sun
