Never Fear the Snowstorm

Never fear the snowstorm

as we prepare for its coming.

Stock your wood high near your fireplace

load your hearth

and light it on that night

you see the snow flutter down

when you look out your window

with flames dancing in the pools of your eyes.

Hot smoke boils through that chimney spout

driving a wedge through those snowflakes

that make their way to the coming summer.

Is it Spring we always seek and adore?

Is there not as much beauty in snow

as when we sit inside dreaming

of the holiday turkey?

prepare yourself for the times which lie

ahead of you…

It’s coming as the cold night,

it’s coming as the heated day,

it’s coming dry and wet

whether we like it or not.

But, it’s not real

and endures only as a memory

be it good or bad.

It is approaching and you feel it.

It is a tradition and a passing

you had no say about.

It’s only that you

must endure

someone else’s plan.

Yet, we do fear,

we do laugh,

we want to keep warm,

we shiver in the cold,

and we need to find reassurance

in something we can predict

will protect us

and love us back

through all seasons.

But, the love we always feel

is there resting warm inside us

which is always provoked

by the outside, in.

This bodily thing which encompassed our soul

separating us

from that ghostly self

tricking us into thinking

we actually do need loving.

Yet, as you look out into nature

you soon see

it does not love,

it does not hate,

it has no pride,

it is cold,

it is hot,

it is warm,

it has no feeling.

But, it is there

without its own mind

without a heart.
