where the vine grows, prayer, poetry, steven humphreys

Where the vine grows

The vine grows

around our necks

ever so tightly

strangling some

nab your nemesis

for murder

climb up

the rock wall

stand on top

look down

‘we the homo sapiens!’

we wear the vine

we are not crazy

who are you?

why have you visited

the moon hangs low

over the bay

boats on shore

the old church stands

moonlight flows

covering all

with its milk

there lay

the buried

its courtyard in grass

wind still

all is well

where the vine grows

over roofs in town

up to the belfry

ringing a silent

in one window

the preacher

his lamp burning
