Fountain

Have

drink of the

literary

at the head of

the

fountain

you have built

with your own

hands

drink well

until

you are full

while you have

your chance

to take

your turn

we know it’s our

hand

but

the hand

we have

been given

is not us

eyes

hair

legs

ears

brain

take them all away

and who am I now?

am I not still me?

once that aching tooth is pulled

it is no longer your problem

it doesn’t belong to you

it doesn’t know you

anymore

and

Vincent,

what am I

when my hand is gone?

who am I?

why am I?

alone in myself

framed in a picture

we do survive

our severed

hand

therefore we are

not our hand

nor our fingers

nor our brains

I am still me

what is me, then?

I am wind

I am sun

I am moon

I am fire in

your garden

wandering

I am eyes

of another

who look

back at you

I am

who you are

and you

don’t know

me

as we shun the blight

of the crawling vine

we crave our sympathies

a shroud

of breathlessness

in

sweet

subtle

machinations

its

darkness

in defiance

of

you

shuddering

heartsick

yet there is

this still voice

who dwells

within

it speaks

it shows you

things

nevertheless

nature teaches

while we lie

upon our

couch

doing those

things we

do

in juxtaposition

yet no wisdom

is as ancient

as the

sun

yet

even bigger things

have gone on

for

an

eternity

without

straight line

circumlocution

individuality

does not

exist

there is no

ideal

man

subservient

not

do not be in a

bad mood

do not have

wrong ideas

real

passages

stay

written
