eat drink and be merry, life is short, enjoy yourself, drink a little wine

Eat, drink and be Mary

Some of us

(and, you know who you are)

trust their dogs more

than people.

being treated like a dog

could be nice.

if someone treats you

like a cat,

N O W

that’s extra special.

in the meantime…

take time to listen

T O

the sound of a hailstorm

pound on your roof’s

shingles.

pray, it won’t leak.

it’s in that painting

over there in the corner

hung on that rusty old

N A I L

that

no one thinks is

any good.

Then, the poor guy

who painted it

dies.

then,

his art becomes a piece of eternity.

some drop out of college

like that painter did.

others, join a union

(like I did)

steady money keeps

the belly from growling.

in this life,

you dance

alone.

embrace your ghostly

partner.

follow the lead of

your own consciousness.

Eat, drink and be

Mary.

(what about Bob?)

this guy gets plenty of advice on how he should live

and how he should be.

but, you are

always

so

trapped inside you.

(listen up!)

Bob.

please, unchain that guy,

he’s driving me crazy!

it is your journey

which becomes you,

Bob.

it is you that

becomes the new you

looking backwards

at the old you

that fell to pieces

all over the floor.

(too much wine, Bob?)

Listen to me

Mary,

looking back is so easy.

it’s looking forward

that has no

trodden path

for such little feet.
