on second sight, poem, steven james humphreys

Second Sight

You knew this

when they left you.

on second

sight,

they were

no longer

here.

they were

beyond the

hidden veil

concealed in their

new cloak

behind

the dark door.

but, oh yes, my friend

we will meet again

at a different

bar toasting

the bartender

who will be

wearing wings

instead of horns

while we

drink

our

heavenly wine.

the shape of things to

come has no shape.

we will see through

clear

eyes.

we shall

awake

into that

like

we

have awakened

from our

slumber

this morning,

and open

fresh

eyes into

a day that

will never

grow dim

(I hope

I can

watch

‘interview with

the vampire’,

there.)
