A Witches Brew

pet to love, poem, steven james humphreys

A witches brew

something cruel

better to do

do you believe?

distilled in a sieve

crystal clear

drink it down

like a frothy beer

throat in knots

are we to live?

what wasn’t caught

took my heart

last of humanity

thought I’d bought

hidden inside the wall

standing in the high school hall

anything out of love

the right thing to do

saddened gift above

something angrily

pissed people off

awakened in a sleeping loft

it’s all in the wrist

if not for feelings,

a convoluted twist

who would exist?

drink it up

don’t resist

getting what the gist
