At First Light of Dawn

At First Light of Dawn poem by steven james humphreys

Before the first light of dawn

my kitties and doggie wake to be fed

My clock says it’s the same time

they must have little clocks in their heads

their feeding bell tolls for me

out of bed I roll taking great care of my friends

How lucky I am they need me

back to sleep they go bellies full of food

my dog sometimes snores

but always kicks his feet like he’s running

sometimes, my eyes get weary

but, I am proud writing cherished words such as these

and as for me,

all I can say

as long as I have

my dearest companions

I have no woe.
