vampires have taken over New Orleans poem by steven james humphreys
Spiritual and beyond

vampires have taken over New Orleans

death is thick in the air

the black plumes of feathers on

lamp-posts of each horse-drawn carriage

ruffle in the evening breeze

carrying the new dead drained of their blood

vampires have taken over this city

buildings burn tonight in old New Orleans

people scream and run

but the living dead

don’t run

unbeknownst to every

living

man

the deathly perpetrators

remain hidden deep

beneath in dark basements

snug in their caskets

sleeping

dreaming their own nightmares

which will be cast down upon

the innocent next evening

as they walk upon

dimly lit streets

unaware

they

will

soon

become

dead

like

their

murderer.
