Stranger poem by steven james humphreys

I didn’t know I made you into someone else a clay man molded

you wished you could have saved me and been my hero and you never knew you already were

I left this world young becoming eternal as I drifted through the ether where there is no time

you had become older and a policeman now

our friend studied to be a doctor and you lived in guilt for so long bringing me such beautiful flowers through decades

but I have always known the one who wrote those short notes and poems left so gently at my graveside

(Inspired by BBC documentary ‘Stranger at my brother’s grave’.)
