frozen poem by steven james humphreys
Life's ups and downs

frozen

frozen shards

dog barking loud

house of cards

cat in the yard

melted heart

glass bottles all piled up high

no more wine

I’m not deprived

it’s pay day it’s all fine

so I stagger to the

corner liquor store

about a block away

on a warm sunny day

bagged me up

chips

cigar

candy bar

jerky stick

fresh bottle of ripple wine

when I get home I just know I’ll be fine…

sitting in my easy chair on the porch

watching the strangers walk and cars drive by

and I’m still amused by all the commonplace things and don’t care why

it will get dark soon

I know everything will be OK

at least for now.
