day old bread

day old bread

live in your head

children lay

cockle shells

under their pillows

a spark ignites

our room

casting shadows upon our bed

tearing them to shreds

there’s a crack in the glass

and a breeze chills the bone

the dark image standing

tall in black behind

the window curtain

flaps its wings.
