Crimson

crimson poem by steven james humphreys

it was a crimson day

all day long

and the two paddled out in their boat

one with an oar and the other with his

they rowed their tiny vessel unevenly but soon learned

how to paddle and go straight

they brought snacks

and water

and a time clock

and they had their golden life vests on

paddling to the crimson horizon

they knew that on the other side

it dropped off into the ether

of the unknown earth

and that it was colored blue

the crow and kitty cat

were at the helm of a new world order

and their clock’s hands glowed

when it struck midnight

with very soft

twelve chimes

and even they knew

that if one believed

strong enough

in happy endings

that it would

be made true.
