Trees by Joyce Kilmer

Trees by Joyce Kilmer poem steven james humphreys website

From time to time, I like to refer to other poetry. I love animals and nature in general. Here, it seems is another who shares my particular love for the outdoors which was all a creation from the mind of God.

Trees

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.

by Joyce Kilmer

Isn’t this poem beautiful! ‘Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree’. What a sentence humbly expressing wonder

and sincere appreciation for one of God’s many wonders!
