standing on the cliff

when you have nothing left to lose poem by steven james humphreys

in the beginning was our first breath

our souls emerged out of the dark ether

from nothing thrust into this body

to learn to live in this physical sphere.

our soul speaks

with complete honesty.

there is no reason

it would lie.

to our hangman

we gasp…

‘no, don’t pull that lever, I didn’t do it’!

he never believes you.

all guilty say that.

we leave this earth

with nothing as we came.

the invisible essence

pervades all.

what are we

made of but

imagination,

shadows

and

memories.
